Welcome to Te Aitarakihi

We are the home for the Māori Mātawaka community in South Canterbury. As the governing body for the Te Aitarakihi Marae-a-Iwi Multicultural Centre, The Te Aitarakihi Society Incorporated are dedicated to upholding Maori values and protocols, promoting understanding and breaking down social barriers.

Our Centre operates through a Maori lens, aiming to uplift, advocate, and create a greater understanding of te ao Maori within our community. We believe in fostering education and exposure in a safe environment for both our whanau and the wider community.

Latest news and upcoming events

The Te Aitarakihi Society Inc. board are just about to sign an MOU with Ara Institute of Canterbury Ltd giving them the mandate to deliver a range of Te reo courses at Te Aitarakihi. There will be a public announcement when this agreement is signed and we have confirmed Te reo class start dates and times.

One of the next major events will be the celebration of Matariki scheduled for Friday 14 July, 2023
